Melody: An Important Factor
Following the Biblical tradition of chanting the Holy One, the prayers in Judaism tend to have melody. The melodies usually are not fixed, but are important. The purpose of these is to increase our sensitivity regarding t'filah (prayer), and also help us concentrate.
Moreover, the music conveys the feeling of t'filah or its drama, or their joy or their reverence, and this is considered an essential part of the act of prayer.
